Dina El-Wedidi's much-anticipated debut album Tedawar w Tergaa will be released this weekend at the Greek Campus of the American University in Cairo.
El-Wedidi has been working on the album for two years alongside bassist Miles Jay and violinist Nancy Mounir, both of whom played a pivotal role in its production. The album includes 11 songs ranging between old and new productions, all infused with novel arrangements.
She rose to fame following her mentorship by Brazilian superstar Gilberto Gil as part of the Rolex Mentor and Protégé Arts Initiative in 2012. They performed together in Switzerland, the US, Brazil and Egypt.
Her musical career started in 2008 when she joined Hassan El-Geretly’s El-Warsha. She then went on to participate in workshops with Grammy award-winning musician Fathy Salama.
Following Friday's debut, El-Wedidi will perform at Cairo Jazz Club on Saturday 25 October.
