"Mashroua Leila is not a band's name. It is not a proper noun per se; Mashroua Leila is Arabic for 'an overnight project' [bursting out of] a microphone, a violin, a bass, two guitars, drums and keyboards," wrote Raafat Majzoub.
Band members are Haig Papazian, Carl Gerges, Hamed Sinno, Omaya Malaeb, Andre Chedid, Firas Abou Fakher and Ibrahim Badr. They are considered one of the most important bands on the alternative Arab music scene. The lyrics of their songs tackle the daily stories of the Lebanese and Arab youth, casting a shadow on controversial issues in society.
Mashroua Leila will perform at El-Genaina Theatre on Saturday 7 May at 8pm.
