The fourth edition of Chopin Piano Competition Egypt opened on Monday 24 November, organised by the Egyptian Youth Music Association and in collaboration with the Polish embassy and the Cairo Opera House.
The competition consists of two rounds, both of which are taking place at the Cairo Conservatory. The second round will take place on Tuesday 25 November.
The young musicians are divided into four age groups: up to 11 years, 12-15, 16-18 and over 18.
This year the jury consists of a number of Egyptian musicians – Fawzy El-Shamy, Moushira Eissa, Amal El-Shahed, as well as Mariola Cieniawa-Puchała, a renowned Polish pianist and professor at the Krakow Academy of Music.
The winner of the 4th Chopin Piano Competition Egypt will be announced soon after the second round ends.
The best young pianists will play at the Cairo Opera House's small hall on Thursday 27 November. The first prize winner is offered a grant to travel to Poland and a short master-class under the umbrella of Mariola Cieniawa-Puchała in Krakow (Cracow, Poland).
