Art Alert: Quirky indie pop duo return for their second Egyptian tour

Maii and Zeid, the indie rock/dreamy-pop/new wave trip hop duo return for their second tour in Egypt with their new EP, Aadi

Maii and Zeid, the duo that has made waves in the regional independent music scene with their bizarre collaboration that has produced the ten-track album, Moga, in 2013, return to Egypt for the second time with their newest EP, Aadi. The music is hard to pinpoint to any single genre, but lies somewhere in the chaotic mix of dream pop, indie rock, new wave, trip hop, old school rock and a bit of funk.

Maii Waleed, the Alexandria-born singer, songwriter, and guitarist, brings to the collaboration lyrics that range somewhere between personal storytelling and abstract thoughts.

Zeid Hamdan, the acknowledged king of the Lebanese independent music scene, is the producer in the relationship. Hamdan has produced for some of the most interesting musicians in the regional scene, including Soap Kills (the Arabic trip hop group that brought fame to him and Yasmine Hamdan), Katibe5 (Arabic Hip Hop), Zeid and the Wings (new Arabic pop), and Maryam Saleh (Arabic electro pop).

A chance meeting in 2010 in Alexandria and the musical chemistry found between them, has led to them playing shows around the region and their second tour in Egypt which starts with a show at the Greek Campus on Wednesday 8 April. They will also be playing the 3alganoob stage during the Sham El-Nessim weekend between 10-12 April.

Wednesday 8 April at 7pm
Show starts at 7pm and tickets are available at the door
Greek Campus, AUC, 28 Falaki St., Bab El-Louk, Downtown, Cairo, Egypt
