Fathy Salama, Farida El-Gueretly and Kayan band.
On Tuesday 7 July Elbet Alwan will host the renowned international musician Fathy Salama.
Salama has won a Grammy Award for the album Egypt, which he collaborated on with Senegalese musician Youssou N'Dour.
His own ensemble, Sharkiat, founded in 1989, still plays his signature fusion of traditional Arabic music with jazz.
Salama greatly contributed to the formation of Egypt’s pop music in the 1990s, and is also known for the series of music workshops that contributed to the creative development of several Egyptian musicians and bands: Wust El-Balad, Amir Eid from Cairokee, Masar Egbari and Dina El-Wedidi, among others.
Thursday 9 July will bring independent singers and musicians Hany Mustafa and Farida El-Gueretly together, also joined by violinist Yasmine Samy, performing acoustic covers and some of their original music.
With his stage name Hany Must (Hany Mustafa), the singer and guitarist has collaborated with Farida El-Gueretly before playing in several venues including Darb 1718, and most notably at Bikya Book Cafe’s music events.
Kayan Band will perform on Friday 10 July.
The band plays Arabic rock, with its band members including singer Sherif El Shazly, Mohamed Samir on the guitar, Mohamed Salem with the bass, Adham Nassef on the drums and their sound engineer Mostafa Fathi.
Elbet Alwan (box of colors) is a bookshop, café and studio space founded in 2005.
