Opera Miramar will be performed at the Cairo Opera House Main Hall, opening Naguib Mahfouz birth centenary celebrations

The opera Miramar will be performed at the Cairo Opera House Main Hall between 14th and 17th December.

Adapted from the novel of the same title by Naguib Mahfouz, the late Egyptian Nobel Literature prize-winner, Miramar, the plot takes place during the post-revolutionary era in Egypt.

The libretto to the opera was written by Sayed Higgab and the music was composed by Sherif Mohie El Din. The opera is directed by Mohamed Abou El Kheir. The performance will include a large number of the Cairo Opera Company singers, the Cairo Opera Choir, with the Bibliotheca Alexandrina orchestra conducted by Sherif Mohie el Din.

Miramar is a joint production between the Cairo Opera House and the Bibliotheca Alexandrina Arts Centre. It was first performed in 2005 at the Sayed Darwish Theatre, Alexandria and Gomhouriya Theatre, Cairo on the occasion of Naguib Mahfouz's 95th birthday. This year’s performances were opened on the Mahfouz birthday centenary celebrations.
