Two of Egypt's singers, Mohamed El Helw and Iman El Bahr Darwish, whose careers boomed in the 80s and 90s, are going head-to-head for leadership of the Egyptian Music Syndicate. Today, 26 July, the final vote-counting is currently taking place at the Floating Theatre in Manial, Cairo.

The voting took place across 16 voting committees, seven of which were in Cairo. The rest were distributed across other governorates, including Luxor, Alexandria, Sharqiya, Mansoura, Shebin El Kom, Mahala and Tanta.

Supporters of El Helw are currently in front of the Floating Theatre awaiting the announcement of results. Some of El Helw's famous songs are being played on the street right in front of the theatre gates.

A few of Darwish supporters, however, also remain in significant numbers at the theatre to support the Egyptian star.

Neither singer has shown up at the premises.

The results will be announced later today.
