The Egyptian singer Talaat Zein died today, Sunday 14 August, at the age of 56 due to health problems. For over a year he had been battling with an illness instigated by an ulcer in his lungs, which he had recently surgically removed in London.
Zein was born in 1955 in Alexandria and first emerged on the music scene with the band, The Dreamers, which was formed by the students of the engineering faculty at the Alexandria University. Other bands he joined include Les Petits Chats and Transit Black.
He has produced four albums with many hit songs that include: Tiki Ta, Ya Moustafa Ya Moustafa and the Egyptian version of the once popular Spanish song, Macarena. He has also acted in several films including Africano, Gamal Abdel Nasser and Ahlam Omrena (The dreams of our life).
His funeral will be held today before the Maghreb (sunset) prayers and he will be buried in his family’s grave.
