World renowned French pianist Richard Clayderman will hold a concert in Egypt at Cairo Festival City, with Romanian ‘master of the pan-flute’ Gheorghe Zamfir as guest of honor.

According to the event's promotional material, the award winning orchestra Royal Camerata of Romania, which in 2009 received the High Patronage of His Royal Highness Prince Radu of Romania, will accompany the piano virtuoso.

Clayderman, who was born Philippe Pagès, has a career spanning 40 years of music.

After studying at the Conservatoire de Paris, his career kicked off in 1976, when record producers Olivier Toussaint and Paul de Senneville selected him to record a gentle piano ballad for de Senneville’s baby daughter.

Ballade Pour Adeline (Ballad for Adeline) went on to sell 22 million copies in 38 countries, earning Clayderman international acclaim.

He has since recorded over 1,300 melodies, and has established a signature style which combines his trademark originals with classics and pop standards. His record sales are over 150 million, with 267 gold and 70 platinum albums.

Zamfir, earned his title of Master of The Pan-Flute for playing an expanded version of the traditional Romanian pan flute with 22, 25, 28, and 30 pipes, rather than the classic 20 pipes, to increase its range.

He was appointed conductor of the Ciocîrlia Orchestra in 1966, one of the most prestigious state ensembles of Romania, and three years later started his own small band.

After nearly 10 years of absence, Zamfir returned with a tour in Canada in 2006, acoompanied by the Traffic Strings quintet, and later in 2012 he performed at the opening ceremony of the 11th Conference of Parties to the Ramsar Convention at Bucharest’s parliament quarters.

He currently resides and teaches pan flute in Bucharest.
