Art Alert: Khaled Selim and Selim Sahab Orchestra to perform concert commemorating Abdel-Halim Hafez

The concert will commemorate Egypt's iconic musician and singer Abdel-Halim Hafez who passed away on 30 March 1977

Singer Khaled Selim will be accompanied by the Selim Sahab Arab Symphony Orchestra for a concert in honour of Abdel-Halim Hafez, the iconic Egyptian singer who was born on 21 June 1929 and died on 30 March 1977.

The concert, to be held on 31 March at the Misr Opera House (MUST), marks the 39th anniversary of the death of Hafez.

Born in Kuwait but currently living in Egypt, Selim is an Arabic pop singer who produced several popular albums between 2010 and 2013. He is also an actor and appeared in Kan Yom Hobak (The Day of Your Love, 2004), Sana Oula Nasb (Year One Robbery, 2004) and Hekayet Hayah television series (Story of Hayah, 2013).

Sahab is an Egyptian conductor and contemporary composer who was born in Palestine in 1941 and is now serving as artistic director at the Cairo Opera House.

He worked as a musical supervisor for the official Lebanese radio station and in 1980 established the Beirut Arab Music Ensemble for Arabic Music.

In 1989, Sahab formed The Cairo Opera House Children’s Choir, which consists of nearly 250 boys and girls. He is also the founder of National Arab Music Ensemble, and the Organization for the Arabic creator.
