Renowned Algerian singer Souad Massi will perform in Cairo Festival City on Thursday 19 May, her first concert in the country since last spring.
Massi, a widely influential artist, is known for her combination of North African folk with a myriad of influences from flamenco to rock. Her albums have received international acclaim, and she has millions of fans both in the Arab world and internationally.
Massi is also very popular in Egypt, with her soulful unique vocals, poetic lyrics and swaying rhythms ranging from simple to rich melodies. She played two successful concerts last year in the country, in Alexandria on 24 April and Cairo on 26 April.
Based in Paris, the Algerian siren remains faithful to her language and Arab roots yet merges influences from other cultures and genres like Spanish flamenco, African instruments, American folk rock.
Her first album hit with wide popularity, Raoui in 2001, features many of her iconic songs such as Gher Enta and Matebkiche. Massi’s latest studio album was produced in 2010, titled Ô Houria.
