On 18 October El-Sakia String Orchestra will open its new season with music by the great Hungarian composer Franz Liszt

Franz Liszt

For El-Sakia String Orchestra, Tuesday 18 October marks the opening of its second year of activities.

The evening will include the following works by Liszt: Hungarian Rhapsodies No. 2 and No. 15 and Malediction. In addition, the orchestra will perform Brahms' Hungarian Dances I and V.

The orchestra will be conducted by Mohamed Saad Basha with Haitham Ibrahim as piano soloist.

Franz Liszt was born on 22 October 1811 and died on 31 July 1886. Hence it is October that marks the composer's 200th birth anniversary and the orchestra chose to commemorate the composer with a few of his works to be performed during the evening.

El-Sakia String Orchestra was formed in October 2010 with the aim of performing classical music in a location that mainly offers pop and rock concerts so their young audience could have easy access to classical music. This ambitious and inspiring initiative is driven by Mohamed Saad Basha, the orchestra’s founder and conductor. The orchestra consists of 12 musicians and performs a Baroque repertoire, extending it to works from other eras suitable for this formation and inviting a variety of soloists to join the concerts.

Tuesday 18 October at 8 pm.
