Concert in memory of revolution martyr Ziad Bakir

Cairo Symphony Orchestra will play on 28 January in honour of Ziad Bakir, a graphic designer who lost his life during the January 25 Revolution

The Cairo Symphony Orchestra will hold a tribute concert on Saturday 28 January in memory of Ziad Bakir who died during protests against the Mubarak regime on 28 January, 2011.

The concert will include works by Rageh Daoud, Carl Nielsen, Per Norgaard, Emil Horneman, Anders Singh Vesterdahl, Jacob Gade and Hans Christian Lumbye. The soloist for the evening will be Anders Singh Vesterdahl on accordion, and the orchestra will be guest conducted by Danish conductor Frans Rasmussen.

For many years, Ziad Bakir was praised for the unprecedented artistic sensitivity and creativity he expressed through his graphic design work for the Cairo Opera House. Bakir lost his life most probably on 28 January, 2011 during the major crackdown on the protesters. His body was found a few weeks later in Cairo's Zenhom Morgue.

The concert will take place at 8pm.
