The oriental jazz band's music includes a unique combination of original songs and arrangements

El-Dor El-Awal

Egyptian band El-Dor El-Awal will perform a concert on 23 May on the roof of Darb1718 as part of the venue’s special programme celebrating the Holy Month of Ramadan.

The band will feature some of their most-popular songs, including Raqs El-Hawanem, Rehla, and Hawdag.

Formed in 1999, El-Dor El-Awal (The First Floor) are known for their unique sound that combines the musicians' musical backgrounds with a traditional oriental foundation.

The band is made up of popular percussionists Bob and Mizo, whose beats are rich, especially when combined with the tight electric bass provided by Ahmed Omar and Fady Badr on the qanun and keyboards, Mohammad Samy on violin, Nour Ashour on saxophone and mizmar, and Hisham Issam on the oud.

Due to conflicting engagements among the band members amid side projects inside and outside of Egypt, El-Dor El-Awal does not perform regularly, but the group tries to appear at cultural venues and with performances in local music spots.

Their first album, Qarar Izala (Decision to Demolish), was released in 2006, while their second, Aatareeq (On the Road), came out in 2009.

Programme:
Thursday 23 May, at 9:30PM
Darb 1718, Kasr El-Shamaa Street, Al-Fakhareen, Old Cairo
