The Alexandria Opera House is hosting a series of events during the month of August as part of the culture ministry's summer programme

Ali El Helbawy

Egyptian singer and Islamic Sufi chanter Ali El-Helbawy will perform at the Sayed Darwish Theatre of the Alexandria Opera House on Sunday 7 August as part of the culture ministry’s summer programme.

During the anticipated concert, which comes after months of the suspension of cultural activities, El-Helbawy will select from his large repertoire of love, Islamic, and patriotic originals, in addition to some traditional covers.

The active performer has given a series of successful concerts over the past years and collaborated with many other performers, including frequent features with German-Egyptian oriental jazz ensemble Cairo Steps.

His band includes Eslam Elabaty (oud), Haythm (qanoun), Hamudi (keyboard), Ashraf Eskander (guitar), Teto and Bakar (percussion) in addition to back-vocalists Ahmed, Zakaria, and Abdullah.

The Alexandria Opera House is hosting a series of events during the month of August at the same venue, including Boghdady Big Band on 9 August and Nesma Mahgoub on 26 August, in addition to many other events.

Egypt resumed public cultural activities last month as part of phase one of the country's cautious reopening following the COVID-19 lockdown, with all events held under strict measures that include social distancing, obligatory facemasks, and sanitising.
