Egyptian independent band Hawas are celebrating the release of their latest album entitled 'Batal Khareq' (Superhero), the first full album after two EPs in 2015; 'Hawas' (Obsession) and 'Like Winter'.
This week they released two songs from the album; 'Garemti' (My Crime), with lyrics written by Mohamed Dawood and composed by Marwan Fawzi, and 'El-Tahaffoz' (Reservation), with lyrics written by Nour Eldine Gamal and composed by Mahmoud Wali.
Formed in Cairo in 2014, Hawas’ alternative sound developed through the years as they performed multiple live events and took part in events like Carthage Music Festival 2017, D-CAF festival 2017, Red Bull FelShare3 2018, and finally Fête de la Musique 2018.
Members of the band include Mahmoud Khateeb (lead vocal), Marwan Fawzi (accordion), Amir Rasmy (keyboards), Hisham Anas (oud), Al-Moataz Bellah Moussa (lead guitar), Mahmoud Waly (bass guitar), Ahmed Tito (drums) and Bouda Abu El Yazeed (percussions).
The band will give an album launch concert at the El Sawy Culture Wheel, River Hall on Thursday, 17 September.
Two days ago, Hawas posted a warm thanking note to fellow experienced Cairo band El-Dor El-Awal after the latter delayed their concert at Darb1718 for one day to avoid performing on the same date of Hawas' album launch.
Hawas’ lyrics revolve around tales of humans; be it suffering, happiness, memories or journeys of self discovery, mixing drama of melody and lyrics as a special means of human expression, according to their bio.
