Since 2002 the International Music Centre, operating under the Culture Development Fund, has provided high-quality music evenings, hosting mainly piano recitals, as well as small formations and music ensembles.
The home of the International Music Centre is in Manasterly Palace (Rhoda Island), yet due to the renovations in 2008, concerts have been temporarily moved to a not-any-less inspiring location: the Prince Mohamed Ali Palace Golden Hall in Manial.
During the 2010/2011 season, three remarkable musicians gave recitals in the Golden Hall: Guillermo Gonzalez from Spain, Ruya Taner from Turkey and John O’Conor from Ireland, as a part of the Centre's autumn season.
The winter season will begin with a Georgian pianist, Elisso Bolkvadze performing works by Chopin and Sogny.
Born in Tbilisi, Georgia, Elisso Bolkvadze won great critical acclaim for her unique sensibility, power and sincerity. She has performed as soloist with many orchestras throughout the US and Europe.
Bolkvadze has won numerous international piano competitions such as the Van Cliburn (US), the Vianna da Motta (Lisbon, Portugal), the Axa International Piano Competition (Dublin, Ireland), and the Marguerite Long (Paris, France). Her new CD “Saint-Saëns Concert N°2”, was released by the Cascavelle label and has met with great critical acclaim in the international media.
