Founded in 1954, the Al-Nour Wal-Amal (Light and Hope) association works in the education of visually-impaired girls.
In 1961, the association launched a music institute founded by late Samha El-Kholy, former president of the Academy of Arts and the former dean of the Cairo Conservatory of Music.
Over the past decades, the orchestra has worked on developing the talents of visually-challenged girls giving them a valuable tool of expression. Today the orchestra is mainly managed by Amal Fikry, vice president of the Egyptian Blind Girls Association, with Ines Abdel Dayem chairperson of the Cairo Opera House as the orchestra's artistic advisor.
The orchestra has toured India as well as countries in Europe, the Middle East and Gulf countries. Its repertoire ranges mainly from Baroque to romantic works.
The upcoming tour to Malta will include a concert at the country's national theatre Manoel Theatre on 5 May.
