The American University in Cairo’s Music Program will launch its Spring season events on International Women’s Day with an online concert on 8 March, showcasing Elena Grechenko on piano and Tsvetelina Kristeva on violin at an event titled ‘The Violin and Piano Duo performs Women Composers in Music’.
“Most of the pieces in the program will be performed in Egypt for the first time by two of Cairo’s women musicians,” reads the event’s press release. The event will be live-streamed on Facebook.
The repertoire features works written by female composers living in different countries and at different times while united by talent, depth of musical thinking, and subtle lyricism.
Upcoming Spring season concerts include Cairo Classical Ensemble’s Spring Love themes, Cairo Impro’s Synopsis, Inspirational Sufi Songs, Mosaic Quintet’s selected works by Egyptian pioneers in Arab music, and Pia Pircher’s Fantasies for viola da gamba: Telemann’s Egyptian Premier.
