During the Pharaonic era, Tel Basta was known as the centre of goddess Bastet's worship.

The music events held during the festival are Brass Sound Band, singers Medhat Saleh, accompanied by pianist Amr Selim and his band, as well as Iman Abdel Ghani, Yasser Suleiman, Mohamed El Khouly and Marwa Nagui, accompanied by an orchestra under the baton of Mostafa Helmy. 
The fetsival will also feature Ali El-Haggar and oud performer and composer Hazem Shaheen. 

The festival is organised by the Ministry of Culture, the Cairo Opera House, in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, represented by the Tourism Development Authority, and Sharqiya governorate. Different entity representatives are scheduled to take part in the festival's inaugural evening on 20 May.

The festival will hold a series of artistic and cultural events in several governorates and is meant to decentralise culture, promote tourism, and raise awareness about Egypt’s rich archaelogical sites. These developments are in line with the country's Sustainable Development Strategy (SDS): Egypt Vision 2030.

Tel Basta was the capital of the 18th region in ancient Egypt. Also known as Bubastis, the city was named after the ancient Egyptian goddess Bastet (the cat goddess). In addition to the important archaeological locations, the region also inclundes the Tel Basta Museum in Zagazig, housing a large number of ancient Egyptian artefacts.
