"It is very painful to see a colleague and a friend going through this difficult ordeal. I can only pray for her so she emerges victorious as usual," the renowned Syrian singer Assala posted on Twitter to her 4.8 million followers.

Assala's tweet has been shared by Aghani Aghani, a regionally-known Lebanese music channel, as well as thousands of other Twitter users, many of whom have posted their own comments on the crisis.

Meanwhile, Lebanese singer Majida El-Roumi shared a lengthy note expressing her support for the 42-year-old Egyptian star.

Another well-known Lebanese singer, Nancy Ajram, referred to Abdel-Wahab as "the daughter of Egypt" who "would not fall."

"She will return to her art, her people and those who love her including myself stronger than ever," Ajram tweeted.

"We support Sherine", "We Are All Sherine" or simply "Sherine Abdel-Wahab" are among the hashtags used by Twitter users following the star's current crisis.

Many other users wished Sherine well.

"Stay strong. We are with you. We love you so much," were among the top comments by Twitter users wishing her a speedy recovery and expressing the hope that she will return to the scene stronger.

The Egyptian star's family hit out against the media this week following allegations that she was forcibly taken to a mental health facility by her brother Mohamed.

“Sherine Abdel-Wahab's crisis has turned into rich material for the media and social networking sites, with people taking sides, either defending or criticising her,” the family said in a statement to the media on Tuesday evening.

The singer’s lawyer Yasser Kantoush has announced that he will submit a request to the prosecutor-general “to prevent the publication of any news about my client.”

Meanwhile, the Public Prosecution has launched an investigation into all allegations.
