Khairy Beshara is one of the best known Egyptian directors of his generation and one the first Egyptian and Arab directors to venture into digital filmmaking in the late 1990s. He established the neo-realism genre with many significant films like The Collar and the Bracelet (1986), Bitter Day, Sweet Day (1988), Ice Cream in Gleam (1992), Abracadabra America (1993), Traffic Light (1995), Crab (1990), Wild Desire (1991), Strawberry War (1993) and Nutshell (1995) followed by many other titles. A selection of his films will be screened during the retrospective.  

Egypt premiere of Mummies

The film follows the fun adventures of three Egyptian mummies who live in an underground secret city, hidden in ancient Egypt. The trio includes a princess, a former charioteer and his younger brother along with their pet baby crocodile.

Etneen Lil Egar (Two Persons for Rent) follows two losers desperate to earn an income while failing to hold on to a decent job. They post a video on social media stating that they would do any job in return for money.

Directed by Shadi Ali, the film stars Bayoumy Fouad and Mohamed Tharwat.

Egypt premiere of  Gandhi Godse 'Ek Yudh'

The film depicts a fictional world where Mahatma Gandhi survives the attack on him and later meets Nathuram Godse in prison. Their conversation leads to a number of fiery debates.

The film stars Deepak Antani, Chinmay Mandlekar, Tanisha Santoshi.

Teryola concert

Dubbed Meditation, the Teryola trio will present original compositions topped with some arrangements. The evening will lead the audience through the inner peace, away from the negative energies surrounding us in daily life.

The trio’s line up includes Hany El-Badry on nay, Mohamed Essam on piano and Mohamed Arafa on percussions.

Aragid Ensemble

Led by Farah Al Masri, Aragid ensemble will perform a selection of traditional Nubian songs. The word Aragid in the Nubian language Fajikka means joy and happiness and is therefore linked to the songs of weddings, celebrations and holidays. The ensemble relies on the performer's interaction with the audience by singing, clapping and dancing.

Casino Badiaa play

This comedic play takes the viewers back to the 1940s with a lot of fun and songs performed by famous actors Somaya El-Khashab, Edward, Ahmed Fathy and Alaa Moursy, among others.

The play was written by Ahmed El-Ebiary and directed by Tarek El-Ebiary. 

Screening of Al Kit-Kat

Directed by Daoud Abdel Sayed, this 1991 classic of the Egyptian cinema, the film follows Sheikh Hossni, a blind man who lives with his son and mother in the working-class neighborhood of Kit-Kat in the vicinity of Cairo.

Egyptian Harp Ensemble
