According to the Cairo Opera House, Egyptian singer Fayrouz Karawya has cancelled her 14 August concert at the opera house's open-air theatre.
The concert had been meant to be part of the 'Ramadan Evenings' series, featuring a number of Egyptian and international performers.
The Cairo Opera House did not provide reasons for the last-minute cancellation, except to say that it was it at Karawya's request.
Born in the Egyptian coastal city of Port Said, Karawya is a singer, writer and researcher. She released her first album, Barra Minni ('Outside Me'), in April of this year.
According to Karawya's official web site, Barra Minni was the best-selling album at Cairo's Virgin Megastore on the second week following its release.
