West’s concert in Egypt was canceled due to personal reasons, according to the syndicate, who added that no other date has been set for the concert yet.

The syndicate confirmed that the concert was scheduled to be held on 20 April, adding that the concert fees had been paid, permits had been issued, and papers were complete.

However, lawyer Amr Abdel-Salam claimed that the concert was canceled for violating Egyptian customs, values and traditions, according to media reports.

According to the same reports, Abdel-Salam had previously submitted an official warning to Mostafa Kamel, head of the Musicians Syndicate, against issuing permits for West's concert unless the organizers announced the names of the participating artists.

He added that urgent legal measures had been taken against Kamel and the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, noting that the Ministry of Interior had been contacted to cancel the concert.

Abdel-Salam stressed that the Musicians Syndicate should be obligated to ensure that the artistic content at concerts aligns with Egyptian identity and values.

West, 46, is a hugely popular artist with a massive following, with some of his songs garnering nearly half a billion views on YouTube.

He is the former husband of American actress Kim Kardashian

In July, the Musicians Syndicate canceled the permit for the American rapper Travis Scott's show, charging that his music contravenes traditional Egyptian values.

Scott's doomed concert had been the subject of wild controversy after many Egyptians called for its cancellation on the ground that the superstar exhibited "anti-Egyptian Afrocentrist" attitudes, and promoted "satanic rituals."
