Mohamed Mounir expressed his solidarity with the people of Gaza during a concert that opened the second edition of the New Alamein Festival, with Palestine also featured in Dina El-Wedidi’s opening act.

Mounir’s concert on 12 July was the first grand music event to mark an official opening of the Alamein festival at Egypt’s North Coast.

El-Wedidi performed a collage between the anthem Rajieen (We Are Coming Back) and the song Viva Palestina (Long Live Palestine).

Rajieen was released in October 2023, featuring Arab artists singing for Palestine.

Palestinian folklore dances accompanied the performance.

As The King (as he is often referred to by his fans) took the stage, he sang one of his known hits from the late 1980s dedicated to Palestine, El-Amara.

The King’s concert also featured many of his older and more recent hits including Ya Lally, Alli Soutak, Younes, Haret El Sa’ayen, and Abu El-Taqiya, among others, with the audience strongly interacting with him.

Mounir concluded his concert with his 2002 hit, Maddad, fusing the new lyrics "Jerusalem is Arab" into the composition.

The 2024 edition of New Alamein Festival will continue until the end of August presenting a large variety of events: music, films, theatre, sports, and family events.

The festival will close with a concert by Wegz (30 August).
