Inshallah A Boy - film

Wednesday 24 July until 30 July, 7 pm
Zawya Cinema, 15 Emad Eddin St., Downtown, Cairo

Directed by Amjad Al-Rasheed, the movie was screened in more than 100 international festivals and is now part of the Cairo Cinema Days programme.

After the sudden death of her husband, Nawal is struggling to cope with the upheaval in her life. However, her pain is soon compounded by the possibility of losing her home to her brother-in-law. Nawal embarks on a journey that challenges her fears, beliefs, and morality, as she fights to secure her rightful inheritance and protect her daughter's future.

My Lost Country - film

The movie is directed by Chilean Director Ishtar Yasin Gutiérrez and has won an Award for Outstanding Artistic Contribution at the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA).

Filmmaker Ishtar Yasin Gutiérrez uses family photographs, extracts from letters and audio recordings to construct a loving portrait of her exiled theatre director father Mohsen Sadoon Yasin, and an elegy to their lost homeland of Iraq.

The film is screened with Arabic subtitles.

Ali El-Haggar - music

El-Sawy Culturewheel, 26th of July St., River Hall, Zamalek, Cairo

El-Haggar has been one, and still, of the best-known singers in Egypt and the Arab world over the past four decades.

His songs carry lyrics drawn from the poetry of Salah Jahin, Abdel-Rahman El-Abnoudi, and Sayed Hegab to music by the country's most renowned composers such as Baligh Hamdy, Sayed Mekkawy, Omar Khairat, among others.

Tedious Tour of M - film

Thursday 25, Saturday 27, Tuesday 30 July, 7 pm
Zawya Cinema, 15 Emad Eddin St., Downtown, Cairo

The film is directed by Hend Bakr. It tells the story of a peanut street vendor who turned into one of the stars of the modern history of Egyptian literature in the sixties, who returns to his hometown and cocoons for 30 years. He claims that he was doomed to stop writing forever.

The film is screened with English subtitles.

Mohamed Sawwah band - music

Room Art Space & Café, 10 Etihad Al Mohamin St., Garden City

The Cairo Conservatoire graduate finds his new voice in a more intimate project that he calls simply Mohamed Sawwah Band, an ensemble that has served as a platform for his original works for almost two decades. 

While being a contemporary Egyptian music genre, Sawwah’s compositions fuse elements of jazz, some shaabi accents, and maqam music, providing a unique presentation of sound, and its creator’s musical thoughts.

The evening will include mostly original compositions and some arrangements of known works. Sawwah will be joined by Mohamed Abdalla on the piano, Abdalla Asabgi on contrabass, Ahmed Khaled on drums, and Magdi Gerges on darabouka.

The concert's playlist includes new pieces as well as the band's older compositions.

Memo - theatre

Memo is directed by Hesham Atwa and written by Diaa Mohamed.

The play revolves around Masoud — a marginalized member of his community — who decides to prove himself unconventionally. 

Ahmed Helmy is the eponymous hero of the play, whose cast includes stars such as Hana Al-Zahed, Ahmed Rizk, Hamdi El-Marghani, Mohamed Radwan, Rahma Ahmed, and Nour Ehab.

Massar Egbari - music

Thursday 25 July, 10 pm
One Eleven, Al-Alamein, North Coast 

Founded in 2005, Massar Egbari has gained a large fan base in Egypt and beyond, with a lineup featuring Hani El-Dakkak on guitar and lead vocals, Ahmed Hafez on bass guitar, Tamer Attallah on drums, Ayman Massoud on keyboards, and Mahmoud Siam on guitar. 

The band regularly sells out concerts in Egypt and has also performed internationally.

Fann - theatre

Fann is an Egyptian version of Yasmina Reza’s play titled “Art.” It tells the story of three friends whose 25-year-old friendship is threatened when one buys a very expensive painting.

Tamer Hosny - music

Friday 26 July, 10 pm
U Arena, Al-Alamein, North Coast 

Pop singer, songwriter, and actor Tamer Hosny began his career in 2002. He has become one of the biggest pop celebrities in Egypt and the Arab region.

Hosny released over 13 top-selling albums. His songs appeared in several television series. Apart from his solo performances across the Arab region, Hosny also collaborates with other musicians, like Rim Banna, Latifa, Souad Massi, and Sherine.

Ezz El-Nes - music

Cairo Opera House, Open Air Theatre, Zamalek, Cairo

Ezz El-Nes band was founded by Sameh Abdel Aziz, who says the idea developed from a choir at Ain Shams University in 1988 to the eventual founding of the band. The band’s leading maestro is Majed Sorour.  

Ezz El-Nes are known for performing some of the most famous songs from major stars in Egypt and the Arab world. 

The concert is part of the ongoing Summer Festival held by Cairo, Alexandria, and Damanhour Opera Houses. Check the full programme here 

El-Massrieen - music

Saturday 27 July, 10 pm 
Roman Theatre, Heritage City, Al-Alamein

El-Massrieen (The Egyptians) is Egypt’s first indie band formed by the famous music composer Hany Shenouda. The band was popular in the 1970s and 1980s. 

El-Massrieen drew their influences from disco music, psych rock, and jazz.

Story Cairo (Confessions) - theatre

Story Cairo is a collaboration with Cairo Confessions for a comedy show with a collection of stories inspired by anonymous confessions published on the Facebook Cairo Confession page. 

Shiva’s Redemption Symphony - music

Sunday 28 July, 6 pm

Shiva’s Redemption Symphony is a heavy metal concert in the heart of Cairo, featuring performances by Medic, Gorinov, and Amenta.

Medic is an Egyptian Melodic Prog Rock/Metal band founded in 2005. Gorinov is an Egyptian thrash metal band that was formed back in 2013. Amenta is an Egyptian/international collaboration of musical talents founded in 2020 and based predominantly in Cairo. 

Nesma Mahgoub - music

Monday 29 July, 8.30 pm
Cairo Opera House, Open Air Theatre, Zamalek, Cairo

Nesma Mahgoub is an Egyptian singer and actress who became a star after winning the eighth season of Star Academy Arabia in 2011. 

Mahgoub sings in many languages, including Arabic, English, Italian, German, Latin, French, and Hindi. She sings in genres such as opera (soprano), jazz, pop, musical, and oriental. 

Mahgoub is also known for voicing Elsa in the Arabic dub of Disney’s Frozen. 

Mahgoub will repeat the concert at the Alexandria Opera House on 2 August.
