Elissa, Assala, Amr Diab mourn Egyptian composer Mohamed Rahim’s death

A large number of Egyptian and Arab artists, including Elissa, Assala, Amr Diab, Carole Samaha, and Latifa, mourn the death of Egyptian music composer Mohamed Rahim, who passed away in the early hours of Saturday at the age of 45.

Many art community members attended the memorial service on Monday, which was held at the Police Officers’ Mosque in Sheikh Zayed, Giza.

Among the attendees were singers Tamer Hosny, Mohamed Hamaki, Hameed El-Shaeri, Sandy, Tamer Ashour, and Angham and actors Maged El-Masry, Ashraf Zaky, and Ahmed Zaher, as well as actor and singer Mohamed Ramadan, producer Gamal El-Adl, and composer Aziz El-Shafei.

The funeral of Rahim took place on Sunday in the 6th of October City, in Giza.

The Egyptian music syndicate and many artists, including Amr Diab, Amr Mostafa, Tamer Hosny, Mohamed Hamaki, Maya Diab, Myriam Fares, Nawal El-Zoghby, Angham, Nancy Ajram, and Haifa Wehbe, have expressed their sorrow in social media posts.

Other singers from the Arab world who mourned Rahim’s death include Emirati Ahlam Al-Shamsi, Lebanese Carole Samaha, and Tunisian Latifa. 

Kuwaiti Islamic preacher Mishary Rashid Alafasy wrote on his X account, praising the Islamic nasheed Rahim composed for him.

 

 

Lebanese singer Elissa also mourned Rahim’s death, saying: “It is tough for me to speak after hearing the news of your passing. You were not only my friend but also the person who could bring a smile to my face with just a message. You were a partner in my success at many milestones in my career and the careers of many of my colleagues. Your achievements will never be forgotten.”

 

 

“My beloved friend and brother, you composed my best and most important songs. You carried them out with the utmost honesty and exceptional talent,” Syrian singer Assala expressed her mourning on her X account.

 

 

Rahim’s first composition was Amr Diab’s W Ghalawtek (1998). He continued to compose successful songs for Diab, including Wala Ala Balo (2001), Law Ashkany (2003), and Kol Hayaty (2018).

He also composed Nawal El-Zoghby’s El-Layaly (2000), Mohamed Mounir’s Younis (2008) and Alby Mayeshbehnish (2012), and Elissa’s 2012 hits Faker and Fe Eyounak.

Rahim composed Sherine’s popular songs Masha’er (2013) and El-Watar El-Hasas (2018), together garnering over 630 million views on YouTube.

In 2015, he composed for Assala 60 Deqiqa Hayah and Manazel.

The composer worked with most Egyptian singers, including Tamer Hosny, Mohamed Hamaki, Hisham Abbas, Mostafa Amar, Bahaa Sultan, Mohamed Fouad, and Ruby.

Rahim worked with dozens of other renowned names from the Arab world, including Thekra, Nancy Ajram, Bahaa Sultan, Ramy Ayach, Cheb Mami, Samira Said, and Latifa.

Moreover, he composed theme songs for TV series, such as Public Interest Case (2007), Hekayet Hayah (2013), which he also sang, Maa Sabk El Esrar (2012), First Lady and Seeret Hob (2014), and Bent El-Sultan (2021).

In addition to composing songs, Rahim was occasionally singing in his tracks, such as Arfa (2008), Ela Kol El Atraf El-Maaneya (2012), Agmal Ma Shaft Einy (2013), and Ana Feya Elly Mekafiny (2018).
