In her first trip to the Middle East, Grammy award winner and pop icon Nicki Minaj is to perform in Dubai on 28 December.
The scheduled concert for Minaj will be a solo performance by the pop star. According to Al Arabiya news channel, the Dubai-based "Alchemy Project" are the promoters of such concerts. Alchemy Project has been also behind the same concerts of rappers Chris Brown and Snoop Dogg.
The Saudi news channel also reports, Minaj has been labeled a controversial character as of late, following her public feuds with fellow celebrities such as co-American Idol judge Mariah Carey and Lady Gaga. She has sold millions of copies of her debut album Pink Friday, which was certified platinum by Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) in November 2010.
The Trinidad and Tobago native has enjoyed success in the Bilboard Hot 100 charts as the first solo female rapper to have seven singles in the charts at one time. Minaj’s seventh single, Super Bass, has been crowned quadruple-platinum by the RIAA, and has sold more than four million copies, making it one of the best-selling singles in the United States.
