Art Alert: 'Music Now' at the Cairo Opera House (VIDEO)

On Tuesday, 22 January, the Cairo Opera Orchestra, led by its principal conductor and artistic director, will perform contemporary works from all over the world

Entitled 'Music Now,' the concert performed by the Cairo Opera Orchestra on Tuesday, 22 January will include a number of contemporary works from all around the world.
 
The programme will include:

David Heath: 'The Gift' Concerto for Piano and Orchestra
Soloist: Amira Fouad (Piano)

The following is a recording of the concerto with Egyptian pianist Amira Fouad performing with the English Chamber Orchestra at Cadogan Hall in 2011:


Manuel Ponce: 'Concerto del Sur' for Guitar and Orchestra
Soloist: Mauricio Diaz (Guitar)

The following is a recording of the concerto with Patrick Feely on Guitar and the McMaster University Chamber Orchestra in November 2010:

 

Nayer Nagui: 'Metamorphose,' a work for Orchestra, Qanoun and Choir
Soloist: Wael El-Mahallawy (Qanoun)
Cairo Celebration Choir with members of the Cairo Choral Society

The following is the premier performance of Metamorphose at Cairo's All Saints' Cathedral in Zamalek. In this recording, the Cairo Festival Orchestra is conducted by John Baboukis, in addition with qanoun soloist Wael El-Mellawy, in February 2012:

 

The concert will also include 'The Blessed Renaissance' by Hamdan Al-Shaely and S.O.2 for String Orchestra by Khaled Shokry.

The Cairo Opera Orchestra will be conducted by Nayer Nagui.
