Art Alert: Al Awela Balady to play Cairo Opera House Tuesday

Egypt's Awela Balady Ensemble will perform selection of songs by celebrated Egyptian musician Sheikh Imam on Tuesday at the Cairo Opera House

The Awela Balady Ensemble will perform a special concert dedicated to legendary Egyptian musician Sheikh Imam on Tuesday, 16 April, at the Cairo Opera House's open-air theatre.

Ensemble members – including Ahmed El-Nogly, Ahmed Nafee, Hisham El-Rifaei, Ahmed El-Rifaei, Islam Mahmoud, Sarah Ibrahim, Zeinab Taleb, Ahmed Nabil, Islam Mahmoud, and Zein El-Abdeen – have created a special programme for the concert, featuring Imam's most popular songs. 

These will include Oum Ya Masri ('Get Up Egyptian') and El-Bahr Beydhak Leih ('Why Is the Sea Laughing'), to name only a few.

Awela Balady, which aims to revive Egyptian musical heritage, was founded last year by musician Sheikh Alaa Ibrahim.
