Celebrations for the anniversary of Mozart's birth were planned on 25 January at El Sawy Culturewheel but understandably the event was cancelled.
On Tuesday, 8 March, El Sakia String Orchestra will remind us of the composer's birthday (Mozart was born on 27 January 1756) with Divertimento in D K.136, Horn Concerto No. 1, K. 412, Symphony No. 40, K. 550, arranged for the Strings by Peter Lichtenthal (1780-1853).
Both, Mozart's Horn Concerto and Lichtenthal arrangement of Mozart's Symphony no. 40, are premieres in Egypt. Soloist of the evening is Amr Abol Naga, one of the most renowned horn players in Egypt
El Sakia String Orchestra was formed in October 2010 with the aim of performing classical music in a location that mainly offers rock events to young people. This ambitious and inspiring initiative is driven by Mohamed Saad Basha, the orchestra’s founder and conductor.The orchestra consists of 12 musicians and performs a Baroque repertoire, extending it to works from other eras suitable for this formation.
