Eftekasat, an Egyptian oriental and contemporary jazz band, will host a series of Ramadan concerts as part of a Sufi jazz tour beginning on Monday, 29 July at Bait El-Raseef.
For the first time, Eftekasat will feature religious chants from Upper Egypt, mixing Sufi musical heritage with Egyptian melodies.
Religious chanter Mahmoud El-Ranan, from Esna, Qena, will join Eftekasat to present a new blend of traditional and modern musical performance.
According to Eftekasat's Facebook event, the band began their Ramadan series in 2007. They have aimed not only to promote traditional musical heritage but also to highlight Arab religious chants.
Eftekasat hosted the artist Roba Sakr in 2008, and they included a Moroccan performance by AlMahdy Nesoly and Hesham Bago in 2010.
In 2012, Eftekasat celebrated their 10th anniversary and their decade-long effort to promote a new generation of independent jazz bands.
The band has toured in America, Europe, Asia and has represented Egypt in many international festivals.
