The Mawaweel festival, which aims to bring a new cultural flavour to the Cairo Ramadan experience, will host this year’s final event on Thursday.
The festival was due to feature events on three consecutive Fridays – 19 July, 26 July and 2 August - but last week’s event was cancelled due to protests, and the final event has been moved forward to 1 August.
This Thursday will see screenings of two short films; 'Noor' by Ahmed Ibrahim, followed by 'Bahari' by Ahmed Ghoneimy.
The films will be followed by performances from a number of bands.
Masar Egbari (Compulsory Detour), an alternative Egyptian music band from Alexandria whose music is a mixture of jazz, blues and oriental sounds, will take the stage.
Also performing will be Salalem, an indie-pop band whose songs deal with the lives of Egyptian young people.
Finally, Mawaweel is hosting Basheer, who perform folk music with a modern twist.
The event will also include performances of tanoura, a traditional Egyptian dance, fire dancing, art exhibitions, and activities and workshops for children.

Darb 1718 Contemporary Art and Culture Centre,
