Rising Egyptian star Maryam Saleh will perform a set of Sheikh Imam covers with an electro-rock twist on the stage of the Falaki Theatre this Wednesday, 27 November and Thursday, 28 November.

Originally only scheduled to perform on Wednesday, Saleh was set to perform a second show on Thursday after Palestinian singer Tamer Abu Ghazala's performance on Thursday was cancelled.

Saleh has long been facinated with Sheikh Imam, a revolutionary folk singer during the 1960s and 70s whose music can still be heard in Tahrir during protests, and in 2011 she began producing tracks online covering his songs in her own unique voice.

In 2012, Saleh released her debut album "Ana Mesh Baghany" (I'm Not Singing), which mixed psychedelic rock with folky Arabic lyrics. Saleh has also collaborated with Lebanese underground icon Zeid Hemdan to produce trip hop covers of Sheikh Imam's music such as "Nixon Baba" and "Valerie Giscard D'Estaing."

Prior to these projects, Saleh was part of psychedelic rock initiatives "Baraka Band" and "The Choir Project."
