Sharkiat

According to Fathy Salama's website, Sharkiat Fathy Salama incorporates "Arabic-scented jazz and spice-coloured blues.

Sharkiat never takes it easy. It’s improvisations, a feature common to Arabic music and jazz, are built on a deep knowledge of the Arab heritage.

Musicians juggle with maqam (the traditional rhythms and scales of Arabic music) by dusting them and making them dance. They play with the thousand and one rhythms carried by the Nile over the centuries, from deep inside Africa to the Mediterranean coast of Egypt".

Fathy Salama is an Egyptian musician, composer and Grammy award winner.

Salama on keyboards and Mahmoud Refaat on percussions will give their concert at the Open Air Theatre - Cairo Opera House  on Friday, 15 April at 8 pm.
