Performers from South Africa, Senegal and Morocco will close this year's edition of Spring Festival. Zaki Ibrahim from South Africa will perform on Thursday 22 May, followed by the dance performance Afreekanam from Senegal on Saturday 24 May, while Aziz Sahmaoui will take El-Genaina stage's on Sunday 25 May.
Zaki Ibrahim from South Africa will perform her compositions which fuse a multitude of genres and cultural influences. Born in British Columbia, Canada to a South African father and a British mother, Ibrahim spent her childhood as a "citizen of the world," living at different times in Canada, South Africa, the United Kingdom, France and Lebanon. Her most recent release, Every Opposite, was shortlisted for the Polaris Music prize in 2013.
Soul Body Ground, a coalition of dancers from Senegal, will perform Afreekanam, bringing together traditional African dance, hip hop, martial arts, contemporary dance and ballet. The event is part of Al-Mawred Al-Thaqafy’s Spring Festival.
Aziz Sahmaoui is a musician, singer and founding member of the Orchestre National de Barbes from Morocco. He is dedicated to promoting traditional music from Morocco, from chaabi music and gnawa, and intertwining them with jazz and rock influences.
All performances will take place at El-Genaina Theatre, Al-Azhar Park, Salah Salem Road, Darassa, Cairo
