Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre to return

Ahram Online, Thursday 17 Jul 2014

The Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre is scheduled to return after a three-year hiatus, the Ministry of Culture announced this week

The Cairo International Festival for Experimental Theatre has been suspended since the January 25 Revolution in 2011, but the Ministry of Culture has announced that it will return this year.

The festival was last held in the fall of 2010, with the participation of 83 Arab and foreign shows, under the leadership of former Minister of Culture Farouk Hosny.

In its previous 22 editions, festival's programme typically featured competitions for theatrical shows, forums, roundtables and book launches that tackle the experimental theatre movement in the Arab world and internationally.

The Ministry of Culture has announced that newly appointed Minister of Culture Gaber Asfour met with the members of the Supreme Council of Culture's theatre committee and was persuaded to reinstate the festival.
