Culture Minister Gaber Asfour met with some members of the Theatre Committee on the Supreme Council of Culture to set the details of the return of the Experimental Theatre Festival to the Egyptian cultural scene in September 2015.
During the meeting, which was held at the Culture Ministry on Sunday 14 September, the minister and committee members discussed the need for the festival's name "Cairo International Experimental Theatre Festival" to reflect what it represents.
Asfour asserted that the festival's philosophy needs to be revisited so that it allows all international and experimental theatre approaches to be included in one festival, and affords the Egyptian audience member the ability to choose from a wide variety of options.
The committee also discussed establishing a board of directors for the event and turning it into an institution running under the culture ministry with its own independent budget.
The meeting was attended by theatre critic Nehad Selaiha, Arts Academy Director Sameh Mahran and writer Abu El-Ela El-Salamony.
The Experimental Theatre Festival was launched in September 1988 and was launched annually until it came to a halt in 2011 following the events of the Egyptian revolution.
