In celebration of their 10 year anniversary, Al-Mawred Al-Thaqafy (Culture Resource) is launching Bidoun Takleef, a showcase of seven projects by Arab artists who are former grantees of the foundation's production awards.
Between modern dance, live music and visual arts, the string of events will be held from 25 September through late October in venues in Cairo, Alexandria and Beirut.
The line-up includes Lebanese visual artist Said Baalbaki's The Art Book. It will also include The Third Circle, a fusion of modern dance and electronic music by Nancy Naous and Wael Kodeih and Love and Revenge, an audio visual performance by Wael Kodeih and Randa Mirza, also hailing from Lebanon.
Other acts include: an interactive lecture titled Love Letter to Mars by Palestinian visual artist Yazan Al-Khalili, Live from Casino Al-Shatby, a music/literature performance by Al-Shaimaa Hamed and Ahmed Omar from Egypt, a film titled "The Iranian Film" by Yassine El-Idrissi from Morocco and a play by Syrian artist Osama Halal titled Above Zero.
The seven acts were chosen by a committee of experts from across the Arab world, namely: Hanan Alhaj Ali, Nidal El-Debs, Khaled Harouny, Qassem Haddad and Fathy Salama.
While performances in Egypt will take place in September, October will see shows taking place in the Lebanese capital. The schedule for October is yet to be released by organisers.
Since its inception, Al-Mawred has been a powerhouse in the Arab World, fueling numerous projects in the cultural arena including the catalogue of festivals hosted by El Genaina Theatre, funding body Abbara, CirCairo and Al-Darb Al-Ahmar Art School. The foundation is also one of the chief actors working towards drafting a cultural policy for Egypt.
