Taking place between 13 and 17 May, the annual international book fair and literary festival known as Book World Prague has chosen Egypt as its guest of honour.

"Egypt presents itself to the world in the form of culture above all. Its literature and art are created by a myriad of writers young and old, with representatives from all fields of art and the intellectual world," writes Ahmed Megahed, head of the General Egyptian Book Organisation in the introduction to Egypt's participation in Prague's fair.

Apart from the many discussions and panels revolving around literary life, translation and changes taking place in Egypt's post-revolution literature, which are being attended by writers, poets and journalists from the country, the fair will also include a variety of artistic events showcasing Egypt's contemporary scene.

The session titled "Young cinematographers in Egypt – reality and ambition" will host filmmaker and producer Hala Lotfy, who will introduce the film industry in Egypt from the point of view of young filmmakers, cast light on their goals, the challenges they face and their attempts to anticipate reality.

Lotfy will also attend the screening of her film Coming Forth by Day starring Donia Maher, Ahmed Lotfy and Salma Al-Naggar. The film was chosen by Dubai International Film Festival in the 100 Greatest Arab Films list and won several Arab and international awards.

The fair will also include screenings of the Factory Girl directed by Mohamed Khan and Harag W' Marag by Nadine Khan.

An event dedicated to visual art, titled "Egyptian visual arts – finding a way" will discuss the evolution and success of this art form as viewed from the past and present. The session will be moderated by artist Khaled Sorour.

The fair takes place at the Palace of Industry, at Prague Exhibition Grounds (Holešovice).
