'Arts Talk: Spaces' will feature speakers from 11 European countries

A series of talks held at European cultural institutions will discuss the use of space in cultural contexts as part of a programme running between 9 March and 15 May.

Arts Talk: Spaces programme is being organised by the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC), and brings 12 established curators, artists, festival and theatre directors from 11 European countries to give talks and share their experiences.

The discussions will provide an exchange opportunity for players in the Cairo art scene to interact with representatives of important European art institutions.

Egyptian art players taking part in the talks are Stefania Angarano director of Cairo’s Mashrabiya Gallery, artist Hany Rashed and artist Ammar Abo Bakr.

The participating countries are Austria, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain and The United Kingdom.

Events will be held between four cultural institutions: the Goethe Institut, Instituto Cervantes, Balassi Institut and the Italian Cultural Institute.

All events start at 7pm and will be held in English unless otherwise noted.

Programme:

Wednesday 9 March at Goethe Insitut

Round table on the use of space in the public and private sector by speakers Henri-Pierre Jeudy, Frank Lamy, Marco Scotini, Bruno Cooren, Stefania Angarano, Hany Rashed and Ammar Abo Bakr, moderated by Sandro Cappelli.

Talks on this day will be held in French and English with Arabic translation provided.

Wednesday 23 March at Instituto Cervantes

Making our Space/Taking our Space, a talk about artistic interventions in Budapest’s public space given by curator Fanni Nánay.

Sunday 3 April at Balassi Institut

Conceptions of Space: Curating Art, Architecture and City, a talk by museum director Pedro Gadanho.

Wednesday 13 April at the Italian Cultural Institute

Urban Space as Theater Space, a talk by theater producer and artist Amelie Deuflhard.

Sunday 17 April at the Italian Cultural Institute

Ars Electronica: innovative, radical and eccentric - spaces for art in science, research and technology, a talk by art director Gerfried Stocker

Sunday 15 May at the Goethe-Institut

Ready to move: uses of space in the performing arts, a talk by theatre artistic director Miriam Gómez
