About Lovers, a musical by independent theatre director Hany Afifi, will be performed from 10 to 12 June at the historical Amir Taz Palace.
The performance, previously shown in Ramadan 2014, is based on The Ring of the Dove, a treatise on love by Andalusian writer Ibn Hazm.
The musicians from the House of Arab Oud will perform selections of Om Kolthoum's music and improvisations to accompany the performance.
About Lovers stars Hazem El-Eily as Ibn Hazem The Andalusian, alongside Ahmed Zakaria, Sara Adel, Sara Haridy and Maher Mahmoud Ismail.
Singer Nagwa Hamdy performs songs by Maher Mahmoud Ismail, and contemporary dance choreography by Hany Hassan.
Afifi’s previous works include I am Now Dead, a play produced in 2005 and performed at the French Institute’s Jeunes Créateurs (Young Creators) theatre festival, then revived again to be performed in 2014 at Falaki Theatre.
Programme:
10, 11, 12 June, at 9:30pm
Amir Taz Palace, 27 Al-Soufeieh Street, Manial, Cairo
