Eswed (Black), a play directed by Tarek Nader, will be performed at Teatro Eskendria in Alexandria next week.
Black portrays the stories of seven young women of different age groups and backgrounds. They all however share experiences common to Egyptian society.
The play's description reads "In the house, at work, on the street, at the hairdresser's, at university, on public transportation, when making decisions - it is one question they all share: 'Does she have a right?' "
The play is a result of a unique directorial endeavour that emerged from support sessions with the actresses, delving into exploring the self and the other.
Black was first performed at the French Institute in Alexandria in December 2015, as part of Nader's project titled Dam Melawen (Colored Blood). Black was then staged in March at the Swedish Institute in Alexandria in the Women X programme.
Programme:
23 September at 6pm and at 8pm
Teatro Eskendria, 25 Fouad Street, El-Raml Station, Alexandria
