On Wednesday, 7 December, the 14th Sharjah Islamic Arts Festival opened.

The event is themed "Minatures" and will continue through 8 January 2012, offering over 100 artistic activities in over 20 venues across the city, including the Sharjah Arts Museum, Sharjah Museum for Islamic Civilisation, the Emirates Fine Arts Society, and a number of clubs and youth centres.

With 10 countries participating and over 1500 works, the festival aims to examine contemporary trends in Islamic arts.

Apart from exhibitions, the festival will also include music performances, workshops and film screenings.
