A total of 321 applications were submitted by artists, researchers and institutions from across the Arab World in response to the Arab Fund for Arts and Culture second open call for applications for  grants.

The categories for which grants can be awarded span the categories of cinema, music, and research, training and regional events (RTR).

Among the chosen grantees are representatives from Lebanon, Egypt, Palestine, Syria, Iraq, Morocco, Algeria, Sudan, Jordan, and Libya.

In the cinema category, Fawzi Saleh, Shaza Moharam and Nadine Khan from Egypt received grants for their film projects, the first two of which have the theme of revolution.

Mariam Saleh Suleiman, also from Egypt, was awarded a grant to produce a music album, “I am not singing” depicting realities from before and after the revolution.

In the RTR category, Orient Productions for Film and Theatre was granted funds to proceed with a “multi-disciplinary arts festival that will include local, regional and international music, theatre, dance, visual arts and film by cutting-edge artists from Egypt, the Arab world and beyond.”

Teatro Alexandria, will be running a project under the name, “Backstreet Festival – Towards Arts are Non-Traditional Spaces,” while Artellewa Art Space will facilitate collaboration between Arab artists experiencing revolutionary change, “in the context of the peoples’ movements in the Arab World.”
