El Sawy Culturewheel hosts street festival

Ahram Online, Monday 13 Feb 2012

A 'street festival' - inside El Sawy Culturewheel showcasing elements of the Egyptian street - starts Friday 17 February at 1pm

The "street festival," that will actually take place inside the premises of the Sawy Culturewheel, celebrates the typical Egyptian street.

Notably, it includes a performance by the band, Zabaleen (meaning Garbage Collectors), who perform instrumental as well as vocal music through recycled materials and old trash cans.

Throughout the day there will also be performances by a magician, the Tanoura group, alongside acrobatic performances and traditional Egyptian musical instruments.

Typical Egyptian food will be available, such as: beans and falafel, hawawshi (minced meat sandwiches with spices), zalabia (round, fried pastry soaked in honey) and more.

The event aims to revive and promote the positive cultural aspects of the Egyptian street.

Programme:
Friday, 17 February, 1:00pm
El Sawy Culturewheel
Zamalek, under the 15 May Bridge on 26 of July Street
