Egypt's Culture Minister receives Ambassador of Armenia

Egypt and Armenia are to enhance cross-cultural dialogue and exchange, confirms Minister of Culture Shakir Abdel Hamid

Today the Egyptian Minister of Culture Shakir Abdel Hamid met with the Ambassador of Armenia to Egypt Armen Melkonian, in the presence of the head of the Foreign Cultural Relations Hassam Nasser to discuss future cultural exchange programmes between the two countries, Ahram Arabic reports.

They agreed to hold more frequent joint cultural events, beginning with a classical concert in Cairo and Yerevan to be followed by several visual arts exhibitions and seminars; this initiative also marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Egypt and Armenia. They also discussed facilitating the work cross-culture institutions and extending current agreements.

According to Ahram Arabic, the Armenian Ambassador asked the Egyptian minister to invite Armenia as an honourary guest at the Cairo Book Fair of 2013. He also officially invited Abdel Hamid to attend the UNESCO 500 Years of Printing celebrations in Yerevan in April.

It is also worth mentioning that some Armenian films are participating in the International Children’s Cinema Festival to take place in Cairo next month – in addition to the Armenian participation in the International Experimental Theatre Festival.
