Flute and harp recital at Cairo Opera House at 8pm

Ines Abdel Dayem, newly appointed chairperson of the Cairo Opera House, on flute and Mona Wassef on harp will perform a selection of works by Gabriel Fauré, F.J. Naderman, Maurice Ravel, Claude Debussy, Manuel de Falla, Astor Piazzolla and others.

"October: Ten Days that Shook the World," a film by Serge M. Eisenstein. Screening at the Artellewa Gallery at 8pm

From a selection of nine international films screening weekly at Artellewa under the theme "revolution and resistance." On Thursday, they present the 1928 Soviet production, "October: Ten Days that Shook the World' by Serge M. Eisenstein.

Bedouin music: Jerry-Can Band at Mastaba Centre at 9pm

El-Mastaba Center for Egyptian Folk Music brings the Jerry-Can Band all the way from Sinai for a night of authentic Bedouin music.

"Tank Girl" exhibition by Nadine Hammam at Gallery Misr

Opening only one night before, Hammam explores female power in a male-dominated society through canvases and mixed media.

"No Walls" Egyptian activists to paint on army-built walls starting at 1pm

Artists call on members of the public to join them in painting open streets on the seven remaining walls erected by the military in downtown Cairo.

Music Festival at Orouba Garden at 4pm

Emerging and established Egyptian bands – such as Masar Egbari, Salalem, Taxi, Asphalt and Black Theama – will perform at the Orouba garden.

Giacomo Puccini's "Tosca" at the Cairo Opera House at 8pm

A production of the Cairo Opera Company, Cairo Opera Choir and Cairo Opera Orchestra, "Tosca" comes to the Egyptian stage. Tonight's performance will be with soprano Elena Baramova (Bulgaria) and tenor Fabio Andreotti (Italy). Conductor: Nayer Nagui, director: Abdalla Saad.

"Time and Place" exhibition by Gaziba Sirry at Zamalek Art Gallery

In bright colours and raw lines, Gazbia Sirry in "Time and Place" creates a playground of vibrant characters walking around the spacious Zamalek Art Gallery.

Live painting performance by SHANK at Tache Art Gallery at 12:30pm

Mohamed Fathi – more commonly known as SHANK – will be painting live in front of an audience for his project "Seven x Three."

"Bab Aziz" film screening at Sufi Bookstore at 7pm

The newly opened Sufi Bookstore has been holding film nights every Friday. This weekend they show Tunisian film "Bab Aziz" about an old man and his granddaughter who travel across the desert on their way to a Sufi festival and meet interesting characters along the way.

"Winter Garden" exhibition at Gezira Art Center

This exhibition, organised by the Japan Foundation in Cairo, is a travelling exhibition featuring the works of 14 Japanese artists.

"Public Screen," a video art night at Lazoghly Square at 6pm

Part of Mahatat Collective's initiative to bring art to public space, they will hold the first screening – in a series of many more over the coming months – of 17 short films by video artists.

Opening of the "Voices of Syria" exhibition at the Mashrabia Gallery at 7pm

A visual arts exhibition by dissident Syrian artists currently living and working in Syria, despite the dangerous political situation.

"Gasping," a theatrical performance at Rawabet Theatre at 8pm

Directed by Laila Saeed, the Alumni Community Theatre group brings "Gasping" – Ben Elton's hilarious and controversial farce that savagely rips apart that most sacred of institutions and big businesses – to the Rawabet Theatre.
