A documentary film in parallel with the kick-off of the Cairo Jazz Festival later tonight.

DOXBOX Film Festival Global Day in the Mosireen Collective at 7pm

After the DOXBOX documentary film festival was cancelled, entities around the world are holding screenings of its films. In Cairo, Mosireen and Cimatheque will be screening three films along with a Q&A with the director of the last film, Nidal Al-Dibs.

Cairo Jazz Festival at El-Sawy Culturewheel at 8pm

The fourth round of the Cairo Jazz Festival brings performances tonight by Positive Energy (Egypt), André Carvalho Quintet (Portugal), The Eduardo Niebla Experience (Spain) and Adam Miller Group (USA). Full programme and interview with the organiser here.

Rennie Harris Puremovement Dance Company (US) in the Cairo Opera House at 8pm

According to the official information released by the event organisers, "Lorenzo (Rennie) Harris (artistic director, choreographer) celebrates hip-hop culture on his own terms, by using some of the world’s most influential forms of movement, music, and storytelling to revolutionise contemporary concert dance." "Tank Girl" exhibition by Nadine Hammam at Gallery Misr

The Drum Circle Workshop will be run by Han Bennink (guest of honour at the Cairo Jazz Festival) along with El-Darb El-Ahmar School.

Film screening of "Microphone Film" in El-Sawy Culturewheel at 5pm

In celebration of 10 years of underground creativity, the Cairo Jazz Festival screens Microphone Film (2011) that documents underground art and music in Alexandria.

Cairo Symphony Orchestra under baton of a Swiss conductor Andreas Spörr in the Cairo Opera House at 8pm

The programme will include Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Overture to a comic Singspiel, The Impresario, K 486; Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in D Major, Op 35 and Johannes Brahms' Symphony No 1 in C minor, Op 68. More info here.
