Venues operating under the culture ministry: from top L clockwise: Cultural Palace in Banha, Arab Music Institute in Cairo, Cultural Palace in Hurghada, Alexandria Opera House (Sayed Darwish Theatre or previously known as Mohamed Ali Theatre)
The culture ministry revealed that it has used the time of the lockdown to work on the maintenance of numerous venues that serve its cultural activities.
Among the 25 locations which saw minor or major restoration works are cultural palaces in Assiut, Port Said, Zagazig, Hurghada, Beni Suef, Aswan, Banha, and Abu Qir, among other cities.
The ministry added that some restoration works took place in theatres operating under the Cairo Opera House: those in Cairo, Damanhour and Alexandria where El-Anfoushy cultural palace went through maintenance check.
According to the ministry, the works included reinforcing the civil protection plans, maintenance of floors, seats, electrical circuits and everything related to the mechanics of theatre halls.
Though it is not yet clear when cultural activities will resume in the restored halls, culture minister Ines Abdel-Dayem said renovation will continue in many other locations to have them in an impeccable condition after the activities resume.
